Meet Felicia
Our Chihuahua, Felicia, brings us an unimaginable amount of joy in our household. We dote on her, we take her with us wherever we travel and our at-home schedule revolves around her bathroom breaks and early afternoon dinner. We love her and she’s a loyal companion and her tail excitedly wags when she sees us.
Daddies’ Girl
Did I say us? I meant my husband. He’s the one who rescued her from the Oregon Humane Society and she has a one-way love affair with him. I am definitely the ‘other human’ in our household. I might be a little jealous but the way they both obsess over each other makes me laugh and warms my heart.
We did not have animals growing up – my father didn’t like them and that was the rule of law. I must thank my ex-wife for introducing animals to me (multiple cats and dogs plus that one time we had a bunny ☹) and now I can’t imagine a home without a dog (NOTE: we are not a cat household).
Dogs act like their owners, or is that vice versa?
They say that animals take on the personality of their owners and we consider ourselves lucky that Felicia represents the best part of us – she’s mellow, a little thick in the middle, and food-obsessed. Our neighbors have dogs with less of a personality, more drama/energy, and admittedly, not as cute.
Queen of the Casa
Last year we attempted to get another dog – we wanted Felicia to have a friend and maybe they would be active together. For a myriad of reasons it didn’t work out and thankfully our single neighbor wanted a fur baby so they are now a happy family. The biggest lesson from introducing a second dog is that Felicia in most assuredly prefers to be the only dog in the house. She doesn’t share and wants my husband (and me I guess?) to herself.
Peter Leahy
A self-proclaimed “ideas guy,” I’ve worked in marketing for over twenty-five years. After years of sadness, emptiness and self-loathing, I finally came out of the closet in 2013 and reinvented myself. Now happily married to my husband for over two years, we live in California with our Chihuahua Felicia, the queen of our household.
