Find Your Own Authentic Happiness

Coming out of the closet in your 40’s: Where do I start? Where’s my rainbow handbook?

What happens when you finally come out of the closet and stop living a lie? For many years, I saw myself as a coward – too scared to admit that I was gay and embrace who I was. Throughout my 20’s and 30’s, my active life was masked with what I believed was “normalcy,” but underneath I was tormented by sadness, emptiness and most importantly, self-loathing. Finally, I summoned the courage to walk away and eventually become a proud (and fabulous) gay man.

Reaching out and being vulnerable to people is scary and you may fail the first time. You have the power to try again, to find your courage and become the best version of yourself, even if that means leaving everything and starting over. You can move from the world of shadows and hurtful ideas to a healthy sense of self. Whatever struggles you face, there’s no reason to handle them alone. I hope my story can inspire you to be your unique self and overcome life’s challenges. Authentic happiness is out there!

This story reads like you're in conversation with a friend with the honesty we call crave from other and sometimes fear to deliver. A reminder to listen to our hearts and the truth will always being you to the place you're met to be.

While reading his story I felt like he was writing my story too, several times. His honest depiction of personal struggle was so heartbreaking, yet he finally was able to break free at last! I just could not put the book down and read it all in one day.

it will provide great insight to those who see friends and family facing similar struggles. Highly recommended for anyone not just LGBTQ+ and its allies. And if you get a chance to meet Peter expect to come away from the meeting a happier person than you went in. He is the epitome of Love is Love.

The story is well-written, engaging, humorous and raw. Peter tells it like it was or is and owns his role in all that has transpired. While I am sure that the process of writing was healing for Peter, the book never feels self-indulgent or preachy. Thank you, Peter, for sharing your story in such a truthful, universal and inspiring way.
